Week of October 16-20

Happy Conference Week!

We are looking forward to meeting with you on Tuesday evening or Thursday evening this week to talk about your child!  We will go over some work that they've done but we'll also be focusing on the transition your child has made.  Thanks for taking some time to meet with us!

Math:  Last week we took our Chapter 1 math test.  Monday we'll go over the test and and also look back at the pretest to celebrate our growth.  Our next unit of study is place value.  This week we'll talk about how to read a number and begin discussing decimals.

Reading:  We will be finishing up the book Guests this week.  We've learned a lot about other genres (folk tales and pourquois tales) as we've read through the book.  We'll be connecting the theme of Change as we introduce another picture book as well.

Science:  Last week we took our first quiz in science.  The quiz focused on point of reference and graphing.  This week we'll begin talking about force.

Social Studies:  The focus on social studies right now is geography.  What kind of questions do geographers ask, what is geography, etc?

Writing:  We began working on some persuasive writing.  The class began by all doing a writing about fidget spinners.  We'll continue working on our choice writings this week.

A couple of notes:

1.  Make sure your child is dressed for the weather.  We have Brain and Body Boost on Monday and Wednesdays which means we go outside unless it's raining.   Comfortable shoes are definitely a benefit on those days.

2.  Friday is a 1/2 day.  We will be dismissing at 10:45am.

3.  We encourage healthy snacks during snack time.  Candy is not considered a healthy snack and doesn't promote learning.  Thanks for your help in monitoring this!
